This is why I love ITG. The interviews with professionals in the magazine/beauty/fashion industry inspire me so much. “Above all it’s about magazines.” I love that. I love that even for a beauty director at the most notable fashion magazine in the country, she does what she does because it is what she loves. It’s not about money (most journalism careers aren’t, but I’d imagine she’s earning a pretty penny at Vogue); it’s about impacting the reader positively in some way. That’s why I want to work in magazines: because I love them and I want my work to make someone feel good after reading it. I want someone to love my work, start to love magazines, become an avid magazine reader, and help keep this industry alive so I can hopefully work in it for the rest of my life.

I’ve decided that I need to get rich. Or rather that I need to learn how to save my money…so that I have enough money to do things and therefore feel “rich”.

I’m heading to Florida tomorrow. Fun fact: I haven’t been on a plane since I was in 6th grade. Even more of a fun fact: the only other times I’ve flown were to Florida, when my mom won an all expense paid trip for my family to go to Disney World…on the radio…twice. Once when I was in 4th grade, and again when I was in 6th grade. She’s pretty lucky you could say. I, as evident by my inability to secure a part time job to work on the side of my unpaid internship, am not.

So I’ve been on a plane a grand total of 4 times, my 5th will be tomorrow. And I’ve only ever flown to Florida. And only if it was for free (which it is yet again this time).

I’ve been blessed with a lot and I’m thankful for all that I have and have been able to do in my 21 years, but I’ve always felt culturally ignorant because I’ve never had the kind of money that it takes to travel. So, I’ve decided I have to learn how to budget my money correctly so that I can save for a trip of some sort. I need to experience some of the world before I become a real person in a year and have to worry about a job and student loans and the like. I’d love to even just travel to the West coast, across the United States.

If I am smart about my finances I think an excursion of sorts could be possible. Or maybe I’ll get lucky and miraculously get rich somehow. Highly unlikely, so I’ll have to just start saving now.
